A Comfortable and Quiet Stay in Historic Melaka
I had to spend a couple of days in Melaka, a tourist town located on the coast, south of Kuala Lumpur. Melaka is rich in history and heritage, and being awarded World Tourism Town 2025, it definitely lives up to its reputation with its unique blend of cultures, colonial architecture, and vibrant atmosphere.

Looking for a nice, comfortable, and quiet hotel at a reasonable price in this town wasn’t a piece of cake. Most hotels were fully booked, too far from the center where I wanted to stay, over my budget, or too low quality with bad reviews that didn’t match what I was looking for.
After spending a lot of time on different booking platforms, I found Christee Suites Hotel, which had very good reviews and matched what I was looking for. I got a very good deal on Booking.com, slightly better than Trip.com and Agoda. I selected an Exclusive Room 2 as it was called, with a large bed.
Location
The hotel is located slightly outside the main tourist center, which was perfect for me.
It’s about 5 years old, relatively new, modern, extremely quiet, and very comfortable. One detail worth mentioning: the hotel smells very good everywhere, public areas, corridors, and rooms.
If you come by car or minibus, there is a safe and private parking area. There is also a 24-hour security guard at the lobby entrance who is helpful with luggage.
My room was at the rear, poolside. But even on the street side, there is almost no traffic at night, so it remains extremely quiet.
Even if the location may look a bit isolated, it’s just a 10-minute walk from the first historical attractions like A Famosa. If you don’t want to walk, Grab is cheap and easily available.

Check-in
The check-in process was very fast. Throughout my stay, the receptionists and security staff (available 24/7) were professional and helpful.

The room
I booked an Exclusive Room 2, which was spacious, clean, quiet, and beyond my expectations.
It was located at the rear of the hotel, pool view and facing an old and big abandoned hotel.

The room was modern, with individual air conditioning, Do Not Disturb / Make My Room switches, and an extra-large bed placed in the center. There was plenty of lighting and free Wi-Fi throughout the building.
Amenities included:
- Safe
- Iron and ironing board
- Small fridge
- Smart TV
- 2 complimentary bottles of water daily
- Kettle with tea, coffee, and cookies
- Slippers, bathrobes, and hair dryer
- USB charging ports (very practical)
- Entrance of the room
- Iron and ironing board
- Bathrobes, hair dryer, slippers, laundry bags and safe
The bathroom was also spacious, with both a bathtub and a rain shower, plus many amenities including bath salts for a relaxing soak.
The room smelled very pleasant, was extremely clean, and bed sheets were changed daily.
On the second floor, near the elevator, there is a prayer room for women (men’s likely located elsewhere in the building).
Restaurant & Lounge
There is a small lounge open during the day and evening offering snacks, cakes, food, and drinks.

I didn’t try the lounge or restaurant for dinner, but room service is available.
Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM:
- First morning: limited buffet due to low occupancy with à la carte options. I chose the American breakfast, which was very good.

American breakfast
- Second morning: full buffet with a good selection of Asian, Malaysian, and some Western options. Hot dishes, pastries, noodle station, juices, cereals, and coffee machines were available.
Only the fruit selection was limited (melon and watermelon), but overall, the breakfast was very good.
Swimming pool & Fitness
The swimming pool at the back of the hotel is a highlight. It’s long, quiet, and perfect to relax after a hot day. Pool towels are available at reception.
Next to the pool:
- Separate saunas for men and women
- Lockers, showers, and changing rooms
Above the pool area is a well-equipped fitness room with treadmills facing the pool, dumbbells, and weight machines. Free water and towels are provided.
Surroundings
Melaka is a city full of history and cultural heritage.
Within a 10-minute walk, you can visit:
- Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum
- St. Paul’s Church (via a short climb)
- A’Famosa
Tip: take the left road when leaving the hotel, it’s shorter.
There are many other monuments and museums, and the hotel provides a tour map.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the city hosts a large street market (Jonker Walk Night Market), which is absolutely worth visiting, lots of food, drinks, souvenirs, and a lively atmosphere.
Some attractions like Melaka Straits Mosque require transport, but Grab is cheap and convenient.
Personal opinion: Avoid the river tour, it’s not worth the money. The actual tour is shorter than advertised, and the audio quality is poor.
Instead, just walk, the old town is perfect to explore on foot.
How to get there?
From Kuala Lumpur:
- Go to a bus terminal (TBS)
- Book a ticket to Melaka Sentral (~14 MYR)
- Travel time: ~2 hours in a comfortable bus
From Melaka Sentral:
- Take a Grab (~10 MYR, 15–20 minutes)
.
Final Thoughts
My stay in Melaka was very pleasant. The hotel was exactly what I was looking for, comfortable, quiet, and affordable.
The city is great to explore, even late in the evening. In one full day, you can see the main attractions; in two days, you can include museums. Longer stays are perfect for a relaxed visit.
If I return to Melaka, I would definitely stay again at Christee Suites Hotel.
