Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, Dwarka – A Convenient Business Hotel Near Yashobhoomi

When I was looking for a hotel in New Delhi for a business trip and a visit to an exhibition, the Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, Dwarka was strongly recommended to me. Its location was particularly convenient for my trip, being relatively close to the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), Yashobhoomi, where I was attending the exhibition.
I found a good deal on Booking.com which included breakfast, and I also booked my airport transfer through Booking.com. Trip.com was also offering some attractive deals for the hotel, so it is worth comparing prices on both platforms before booking. Although the hotel can arrange airport transfers itself, I preferred to book this service in advance for peace of mind.
After spending several nights at the hotel, I found it to be a very comfortable and well-equipped five-star property, particularly suitable for business travellers, even if the room looked a bit outdated.
Location
The hotel is located in Sector 10, Dwarka, in the southwest of New Delhi. It is around 5 km from the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC – Yashobhoomi), about 20 to 30 minutes by car depending of the traffic, making it a convenient choice if you are visiting an exhibition or conference there.
It is also reasonably close to Indira Gandhi International Airport. My transfer from the airport took approximately 20 to 30 minutes, although this obviously depends very much on traffic. And traffic in Delhi can be quite unpredictable!
Despite being relatively close to the airport, I didn’t experienced so much aircraft noise in my room. I could actually see aircraft taking off and landing from the hotel, but the room was surprisingly quiet.
Arrival and Check-in
As is common with larger hotels in India, security starts before you even reach the reception. There is a security checkpoint and luggage scanning at the entrance, which gives the hotel a very secure feeling.
The lobby is large and impressive, with a spacious reception area. My check-in was quick, efficient and professional, with no problems at all. As well as my check-out.
A member of the hotel staff accompanied me to my room on the 11th floor, which was a nice touch after arriving with luggage.
The Room
My room was one of the highlights of my stay. It was very spacious, with a large king-size bed, a comfortable sofa, a desk and chair, and plenty of space to move around.
There was a large LCD television with a wide selection of Indian and international channels. Electrical sockets were available in several places around the room, although I did find that a few of them did not work. Some sockets also included USB-A and USB-C ports, but unfortunately these were not functioning in my room.
One particularly generous detail was the amount of complimentary drinking water provided.
There were four glass bottles next to the bed, which were replaced every day. There were also two bottles near the tea and coffee station and another two in the refrigerator. That made a total of eight bottles of water in the room, all replenished daily.
The tea and coffee facilities included a kettle, tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk. There was also a safe, an iron and ironing board, laundry service, two pairs of slippers and even shoe-shining sponges.
Bathroom
The bathroom was not particularly large, but it was perfectly spacious enough and very well equipped.
The highlight was the large walk-in rain shower, which offered plenty of space and was very comfortable.
There was a large illuminated LED mirror, a hairdryer and a generous selection of bathroom amenities. These included soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, a comb, cotton buds, a nail file and a shower cap.
The amenities and towels were replenished regularly, and there were plenty of towels available throughout my stay.
Comfort and Sleeping Quality
The bed was very comfortable and I slept very well during my stay.
The air conditioning system was a little unusual. The display always seemed to be switched off even after a couple of minutes on, so I assume it was operating automatically. It was slightly noisy at times, but not enough to disturb my sleep.
The biggest surprise was how quiet the room was considering the hotel’s location. Although the airport is not far away and I could see aircraft flying relatively low over the area, I heard virtually nothing inside the room.
My room overlooked some buildings under construction, as well as the hotel’s swimming pool. The view was not particularly spectacular, but this was not something that bothered me.
The only area where I felt there was room for improvement was housekeeping. The room was generally well maintained, but the floor could have been cleaned and vacuumed a little more thoroughly.
Breakfast
Breakfast was served from 7:00 am and was one of the strongest points of my stay.
The buffet was extensive, with a very good selection of Indian dishes as well as some European-style options. There were pastries, bread, fruit and many other choices, together with live stations where eggs and Indian breads could be prepared.
There was plenty of choice, whether you wanted a traditional Indian breakfast or something more familiar.
For me, the breakfast was simply excellent. There was nothing I felt was missing.
Dining
I also had the opportunity to eat at the hotel for both lunch and dinner.
The restaurant, Del One, is located right in the heart of the hotel, within the large central atrium. Rather than being tucked away on one of the outer sides of the building, it is surrounded by the hotel’s impressive interior spaces and guestroom balconies above. There is also a bar overlooking the restaurant, which can be accessed directly from the dining area. This open design gives the restaurant a particularly spacious and interesting atmosphere.
The à la carte menu offered a good variety of Indian and international dishes. In addition to Indian cuisine, there were burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, pasta and other international options.
The food was well presented and I had no complaints about the meals I tried.
On some evenings, the hotel was also offering a dinner buffet. There was a large selection of appetisers, Indian dishes and small desserts. It was another enjoyable dining experience.
Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre
The hotel has a fairly large outdoor swimming pool, located in a sunny area of the property.
There were only a couple of parasols and a limited number of sun loungers when I visited. I rarely saw anyone using the pool, so it was actually a very peaceful place to relax. Towels and bottles of water were available for guests.
The hotel also has a fitness centre with a good selection of equipment. There were multi-exercise machines, a range of weights and dumbbells, exercise bikes and treadmills.
For a hotel fitness centre, I found the equipment more than adequate for maintaining a normal workout routine while travelling.
Facilities and Services
The hotel is a large property with a substantial amount of space dedicated to conferences and events. It has numerous meeting and conference rooms and a large team of staff.
One thing I particularly noticed was the availability of staff whenever something was needed. If I had a question or required something in the room, the reception was quick to send someone to help or resolve the issue.
Room service is also available, which is convenient after a long day at an exhibition.
Free WiFi available in the room as well as all the hotel but sometimes extremely slow and often disconnecting.
In the lobby, there is also a small coffee shop selling coffee, tea, pastries and cakes.
A Small Shopping Area
Another useful feature is a small shopping area located within the same building complex.
You have to leave the hotel and enter the shopping area from the side, but it is convenient to have it so close. It is quite small, with a few shops selling local clothing and other items.
There is also a small convenience store selling a surprisingly wide range of everyday products, including food and household items. I did not try paying with an international Visa card, so I cannot comment on the available payment methods.
There is also another small coffee shop with cakes and other refreshments.
Security
Security is taken seriously at the hotel, from the luggage screening at the entrance onwards.
For a foreign traveller arriving in Delhi, I appreciated the feeling of being in a secure and well-organised environment. The combination of security staff, reception staff and the large number of employees around the property made the hotel feel very well managed.
Final Thoughts
The Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, Dwarka turned out to be a very comfortable base for my business trip to New Delhi.
The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was well equipped and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel also offers everything I would expect from a large five-star business hotel: restaurants, room service, swimming pool, fitness centre, conference facilities and plenty of staff available to assist guests.
There were a few minor issues, particularly some electrical sockets that did not work and housekeeping that could have paid a little more attention to the floor. The view from my room was also nothing special.
However, these were relatively minor points compared with the overall experience.
Would I stay here again?
Absolutely. If I return to New Delhi for another business trip or exhibition in this part of the city, I would have no hesitation about staying at the Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels again.
